Hayden Biegel, a 6-foot-6, 243-pound junior offensive tackle from Wisconsin Rapids (WI) Lincoln, recently attended a Gopher spring football practice. He has received three scholarship offers and is getting recruiting interest from Minnesota. recently caught up with Biegel to learn the latest on his recruitment.
Biegel helped lead the Red Raiders to a 12-2 mark, losing to Kenosha Bradford 7-0 in the WIAA State championship game.
Gopher Hole: What is the latest on your recruitment? I think that you have three offers from Illinois, Wisconsin and North Dakota, right?
Hayden Biegel: Yes.
Gopher Hole: What others schools are you hearing from right now?
Hayden Biegel: I’ve been talking to Iowa State, Northern Illinois and also Minnesota.
Gopher Hole: Have you had a chance to go to many Junior Days or spring practices?
Hayden Biegel: Over spring break, I visited Wisconsin and this is my second visit. It was nice to get down to Minnesota.
Gopher Hole: What are you hearing from the Gophers?
Hayden Biegel: They are interested in me. They haven’t offered me yet.
Gopher Hole: Have you thought about what camps you might attend this summer?
Hayden Biegel: Definitely want to try to get down for a one-day camp this summer.
Gopher Hole: Do you know what other camps you want to attend?
Hayden Biegel: I am going to make the one-day camp in Madison and just stay with my high school team and go through some camps with them too.
Gopher Hole: Do you play any other sports?
Hayden Biegel: No. Right now, I am just doing power lifting and trying to keep my speed, since I am not going out for track.
Gopher Hole: What things are you working on to improve yourself as a player?
Hayden Biegel: Right now, I take a lot of protein shakes and try to gain weight. Also, weight training with the team and the head coach. I’m trying to keep my speed and keep working hard in the classroom and the weight room.
Gopher Hole: What are the expectations for your team next year?
Hayden Biegel: Our offensive line, we are all back on the O line, so that will be good. Our defense will be questionable. We lose just about everybody besides one of our linebackers and our safety.
Gopher Hole: What do you see as your strengths as a player?
Hayden Biegel: Mostly, getting leverage on people. I am trying to gain weight, so we’ll see how that goes.
Gopher Hole: Have you thought much about a possible college major?
Hayden Biegel: Our family is on the business side of things, so somewhere around there.
Gopher Hole: You come from a football family, right?
Hayden Biegel: My brother (Vince) signed with the Badgers (over offers from BYU, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Stanford and Tennessee) and my dad (Rocky) played at BYU.
